How Hydraulic Disc Caliper Brakes Work

Mar 14, 2025

How Hydraulic Disc Caliper Brakes Work:

  1. Hydraulic System: These brakes use a hydraulic system to transfer force from the brake actuator (usually a surge brake coupler or electric brake controller) to the brake calipers.
  2. Disc Rotor: A disc rotor is mounted to the trailer wheel hub. When the brakes are applied, the caliper squeezes the rotor to create friction, slowing down or stopping the trailer.
  3. Caliper Mechanism: The caliper houses brake pads that clamp onto the rotor. Hydraulic pressure forces the pads against the rotor, generating the necessary friction for braking.
