How They Work:
- Operation: When the braking system needs to be applied, the actuator energizes the magnets, causing them to generate a strong magnetic field.
- Magnetic Resistance: The magnetic field interacts with the ferromagnetic drum, creating eddy currents within the drum material. These eddy currents produce a counter-torque that resists the drum's rotation, effectively slowing down or stopping the motion.
- Deactivation: To release the brake, the magnets are de-energized, reducing or eliminating the magnetic field and allowing the drum to rotate freely again.
