Fail-safe by construction - springs do the braking

Released (power ON)
Release coil/mechanism is energised.
Armature compresses the spring stack.
Friction faces separate from the disc.
Shaft turns freely with zero drag.
Locked (power OFF)
Power removed - coil de-energised.
Springs expand and push the friction plates together.
Disc is clamped between the faces.
Shaft held with zero electrical energy.
Must do
Size holding torque with ≥1.5× safety margin.
Pair with a service brake for deceleration duty.
Test lock function after every lining change.
Use the manual release only with the load secured.
Must NOT do
Weld, tie or block the release arm - you destroy fail-safe.
Use SB as the sole dynamic-stop brake on high-inertia loads.
Reverse the supply polarity on DC release without checking.
Run with contaminated / worn past-limit linings.
