Drum brake information introduction:
1. Drum brake is the use of brake transmission mechanism to brake shoe brake friction disc pressed inside the brake drum, thereby generating braking force, according to the need to slow down the wheel or stop in the shortest distance, to ensure driving safety, and ensure that the car parking reliable can not automatically slip;
2. Drum brake is also called block brake, which is realized by pressing the brake block on the brake wheel. Drum brake is an early design of the brake system, the design of the brake drum has been used in the carriage in 1902, until around 1920 began to be widely used in the automobile industry;
3. The mainstream of the drum brake is the internal tension type, its brake block (brake shoe) is located inside the brake wheel, when the brake block opens outward, friction the inside of the brake wheel, to achieve the purpose of braking;
4. In the past three decades, drum brakes in the field of cars has been gradually withdrawn to give way to disc brakes. However, due to the relatively low cost, it is still used in some economic cars, mainly for the rear wheel and parking brake with relatively small brake load.
In simple terms, the drum test is a round drum pack brake pad, and the disc test is the brake pad pack disc.
1. Drum brake advantages: drum brake cost is cheap, and in line with traditional design. In the braking process of four-wheel cars, due to the role of inertia, the load of the front wheel usually accounts for 70%-80% of the total load of the car, the braking force of the front wheel is larger than the rear wheel, and the rear wheel plays an auxiliary braking role, so the car manufacturers in order to save costs, they use the braking method of the front disc and the rear drum. However, for heavy vehicles, because the speed is generally not very high, the durability of the brake shoes is higher than that of the disc brake, so many heavy vehicles still use the four-wheel drum design.
2. Disadvantages: the braking efficiency and heat dissipation of drum brakes are much worse, the braking force stability of drum brakes is poor, the braking force changes greatly on different roads, and it is not easy to control. Due to the poor heat dissipation performance, a lot of heat will gather during the braking process. Under the influence of high temperature, the brake block and drum are prone to complex deformation, which is easy to produce brake decay and vibration, resulting in the decrease of braking efficiency. In addition, after the drum brake is used for a period of time, the gap of the brake shoes should be adjusted regularly, and even the entire brake drum should be removed to clean up the accumulated brake powder.
