How They Work
- Hydraulic Pressure: The brake system is activated by hydraulic pressure, which is generated by a pump or an accumulator.
- Brake Shoes/Linings: When hydraulic pressure is applied, it forces brake shoes (also known as brake linings) against the rotating drum.
- Friction: The contact between the brake shoes and the drum generates friction, which slows down or stops the rotation of the drum.
- Drum: The drum is typically attached to the rotating part of the machinery, such as a wheel or a shaft.
- Release Mechanism: Once the hydraulic pressure is released, springs or another mechanism retracts the brake shoes, allowing the machinery to move freely again.
