MW160-80 belongs to MW series normally closed spring-applied electromagnetic drum brake; MW = AC electromagnetic type, MWZ160-80 is DC powered variant.
160: Matching brake drum diameter: 160 mm
80: Rated braking torque: 80 N·mConforming to national industrial standard JB/T7685-2006, it is energy-saving block brake with fast response, widely used for safety stop and static holding of lifting, conveyor and metallurgical equipment.
2. Working Principle (Fail-Safe: Power-off Braking, Power-on Release)
Braking Condition (Power Cut / Blackout)
When electromagnet loses power, magnetic suction disappears; preloaded main compression springs push two brake arms outward, clamping the asbestos-free brake shoes tightly onto outer surface of 160mm brake drum. Friction generates rated torque to lock drum and stop rotation automatically (core safety design to prevent load falling during power failure).
Release Condition (Power Energized)
After power supply switches on, electromagnet produces strong magnetic pull to overcome spring preload, pulling brake arms apart; brake linings separate from drum surface with uniform clearance, equipment runs freely.Brake shoe clearance and spring preload can be finely adjusted via regulating bolts to compensate lining abrasion.
