When the vehicle brakes, the piston of the wheel cylinder pushes the brake shoe to press the brake drum, and the brake drum is slowed down by friction, forcing the wheel to stop rotating.

 

The rear wheel drum brake structure is shown in the following figure, which is a wheel cylinder type unbalanced brake.

In the brake, the rotating part is a brake drum, which is connected with the wheel by bolts and rotates with the wheel;

 

The fixing piece is a brake bottom plate 10, which is mounted on the flange at the end of the rear axle beam. The brake bottom plate is equipped with brake parts such as brake shoe 3 and wheel brake cylinder assembly

 

In the brake drum, the lower ends of the brake shoes 3 and the brake friction plates 12 on both sides are inserted into the corresponding grooves of the brake bottom plate 10, and the upper ends abut against the pistons of the wheel brake cylinders 9, and the supporting points of the hand brake push rod 2 are adjacent to the upper supporting points, which are stuck in the push rod 

 

The upper part of the brake shoe is tensioned by springs 5 and 4, and the lower part is tensioned by spring 8. The brake shoe is pressed against the brake bottom plate 10 through the limit screw, the limit spring seat 6 and the limit spring.

 

When braking, the brake pedal is depressed, and the brake fluid pressure enters the wheel cylinder 9 of the wheel, so that the piston moves outward, pushing the brake shoe 3 and the brake friction plate 12 to press against the brake drum outward, so that the wheel slows down until it stops rotating.

During hand braking, the hand brake handle is pulled, the hand brake cable pulls the hand brake pull rod 7 forward, and the left and right brake shoes are pushed away and pressed against the brake drum by the lever action of the push rod

 

When the hand brake handle is stuck, the brake shoe is pressed against the brake drum, which becomes the parking brake of the car.

The gap between the brake shoe and the brake drum is automatically adjusted by the adjusting wedge 1 installed on the push rod 2, and the lower end of the adjusting wedge is equipped with an adjusting spring 13, which pulls the adjusting wedge to automatically adjust the gap.
