How does the brake work?

Nov 22, 2021

Brakes are often used in mechanical operation equipment, mainly to slow down and stop the equipment. So what is the operating mode of the brake?

A brake is a device that can decelerate, stop, or maintain a stopped state of moving parts. Braking torque is applied to the rotating element through the fixed element, so that the rotational angular velocity of the latter is reduced. At the same time, relying on the adhesion of the wheels and the ground, the braking force of the road to the wheels is generated to slow the car.

Nowadays, brakes are widely used in many fields, and they are mainly composed of frame, brakes and operating devices. Some brakes are also equipped with automatic adjustment devices for the gap of the brakes. In order to reduce the braking torque and structural size, the brake is usually installed on the high-speed shaft of the equipment. However, large-scale equipment with high safety requirements should be installed on a low-speed shaft near the working part of the equipment. The general working principle of the brake system is to use the mutual friction between the non-rotating elements connected to the vehicle body (or frame) and the rotating elements connected to the wheels (or drive shafts) to prevent the wheels from turning or turning.
