Electromagnetic Fail-Safe Brakes
Electromagnetic fail-safe brakes are spring applied and use an electromagnetic solenoid to hold the brake open. If the brake is turned off or power is lost, the spring engages the brake. We incorporate both electromagnetic disc and drum brakes into our industrial braking systems. We also provide comprehensive repair services for these brakes.
Description
Electromagnetic fail-safe brakes are spring applied and use an electromagnetic solenoid to hold the brake open. If the brake is turned off or power is lost, the spring engages the brake.

Advantages:
Electromagnetic brakes allow for quick operation, as they set more quickly than most other types of fail-safe brakes. They also allow for adjustable torque, which enables fine tuning of the braking process. Electromagnetic brakes are often used when environmental contamination by leaking fluids is a major concern (e.g., hydraulic fluid in the case of hydraulic brakes).
Disadvantages:
Electromagnetic brakes are generally more expensive than other types of fail-safe brakes (e.g., a pneumatic brake that achieves a comparable torque level). This is because electromagnetic brakes are inherently expensive due to the amount of expensive materials like copper they require. Similarly, electromagnetic brakes can be difficult to fit into small spaces, especially when compared to hydraulic brakes. Finally, electromagnetic brakes may not be the best option if the application requires a high duty cycle, a situation in which electrohydraulic thruster brakes excel.
