1 High boiling point: Brake fluid should have a high boiling point to prevent steam foam during braking, which will cause brake failure.
2. Low compressibility: The brake fluid should have low compressibility to ensure that the power of the brake pedal can be effectively transmitted to the brake and provide stable braking force.
3 Good lubricating performance: Brake fluid should have good lubricating performance to reduce brake wear and friction
4. Corrosion resistance: The brake fluid should have good corrosion resistance to prevent the metal parts inside the brake system from being corroded and damaged.
Common brake fluid types include DOT3, DOT4, DOT5, and DOT5.1. Their main difference is the boiling point and chemical composition.
DOT3: DOT3 brake fluid has a lower boiling point and is suitable for general passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. It is a polyether alcohol ester based brake fluid
DOT4: DOT4 brake fluid has a higher boiling point and is suitable for high performance vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles. It can be polyether alcohol based or polyethylene glycol based brake fluid
-DOT5: DOT5 brake fluid is a silicon-based brake fluid with a higher boiling point and better high temperature resistance. It is mainly used in military and racing applications.
-DOT5.1: DOT5.1 brake fluid is a polyether alcohol ester based brake fluid with similar properties to DOT4 but with a higher boiling point.
