The YLZ40-160 is a medium-duty hydraulic wheel brake from the YLZ series, designed for direct mounting on equipment wheels or axles. It adopts a hydraulic-driven clamping structure, delivering stable braking force with a nominal braking torque range of 40–160 N·m. Characterized by compact design, reliable performance, and easy integration, it is widely used in low-to-medium speed industrial equipment requiring wheel-side braking.

1. Working Principle

The brake operates based on hydraulic pressure to drive clamping action and spring-assisted reset, with structural designs ensuring braking stability and operational smoothness. The core working process includes three stages:

1.1 Brake Engagement

When braking is required, the hydraulic system (common working pressure: 8–12 MPa) delivers pressure to the brake's hydraulic cylinder.

The piston in the cylinder pushes outward under hydraulic force, driving the two arc-shaped brake calipers to clamp inward toward the wheel hub (or brake disc integrated with the wheel).

The friction linings (asbestos-free resin-based composite) on the inner side of the calipers tightly fit the wheel's braking surface. Friction generates 40–160 N·m braking torque, resisting the wheel's rotation and decelerating the equipment until it stops.

A built-in force-balancing mechanism ensures uniform clamping pressure on both sides of the wheel, avoiding uneven wear or deviation during braking.

1.2 Brake Release

When the braking signal is terminated, the hydraulic system relieves pressure through a relief valve.

The return springs (65Mn steel) installed in the hydraulic cylinder rebound, pulling the piston and brake calipers back to their original positions. The friction linings disengage from the wheel's braking surface, leaving a 0.3–0.5 mm clearance to eliminate drag friction.

The wheel is no longer constrained and rotates freely, allowing the equipment to operate normally.

1.3 Stability & Maintenance-Enhancing Designs

Self-Lubricating Components: All moving hinge points are equipped with self-lubricating bushings, eliminating the need for frequent manual lubrication, reducing wear, and ensuring smooth braking actions.

Wear Compensation: A built-in automatic wear adjuster compensates for minor lining wear, maintaining consistent braking performance and clearance without manual calibration.

Quick-Replace Linings: Friction linings adopt a bolt-on or clip-on design, enabling fast disassembly and replacement without removing the entire brake, minimizing maintenance downtime.

2. Typical Applications

The YLZ40-160 is optimized for wheel-side braking of low-to-medium speed (≤50 km/h) medium-duty equipment, with core applications in:

2.1 Material Handling Equipment

Compatible with small-to-medium tonnage forklifts, manual handling trucks, and warehouse stackers. It provides stable braking during goods transportation and parking, enhancing operational safety in narrow warehouse spaces.

Suitable for the wheel-side braking of small electric transport vehicles (e.g., factory material transporters, airport luggage carts), ensuring precise stopping and preventing sliding on smooth floors.

2.2 Construction & Engineering Machinery

Applied to small construction equipment such as mini loaders, skid steer loaders, and small excavators. It adapts to uneven construction site terrain, delivering reliable braking during equipment movement and operation.

Used in small aerial work platforms and scissor lifts, providing safety braking to prevent accidental movement when the platform is elevated, protecting operators.

2.3 Agricultural & Auxiliary Machinery

Matches small agricultural equipment such as mini tractors, grain harvesters, and agricultural transport trailers. It resists dust and crop residues, ensuring stable braking during field operations.

Suitable for auxiliary braking of small industrial trailers (e.g., tool trailers, small cargo trailers) in workshops or logistics yards, improving towing safety.

2.4 General Industrial Equipment

Installed on the wheeled transmission mechanisms of small conveyors, testing equipment, and industrial robots. It enables quick emergency braking to avoid equipment collision or workpiece damage.

For special working conditions (e.g., humid workshops, outdoor rain), an optional anti-corrosion coating (epoxy resin) and sealed hydraulic cylinder (IP54 protection) are available to maintain stable performance.
