Basic Information:

Caliper brake is a secondary emergency brake added to stop hoist gears and down hill conveyor in the event the service brake fails preventing accidents. 

These brakes are for parking utilization, securing the crane against the wind force. In emergency condition they can be operated also as dynamic brakes to stop the crane.

The high capacity of these brakes makes them particularly suitable as service- or secondary emergency brakes e.g. on hoists, slewing drives and belt conveyors. Other applications are in material handling, mechanical engineering and wind turbine industry, where high holding forces are required independent of the direction of rotation within limited space.
