YWZ4-150/E30 Spring-Applied Hydraulic-Release Drum Brake

Product Overview

YWZ4-150/E30 is a spring-applied, electro-hydraulically released drum brake. The Ed30/5 thruster builds hydraulic pressure, extends the push rod and opens the shoes against the spring. Cut the power and the spring immediately pulls the shoes back onto the drum.

It is not a holding-only safety brake. It is a service brake​ for normal deceleration and stopping in non-hazardous areas. For explosive atmospheres, use the explosion-protected version - do not put a standard YWZ4 in a gas or dust zone.

The brake replaces legacy YWZ3 units. Mounting hole pattern stays in the same class, so retrofit is fast: unbolt the old brake, bolt in the YWZ4-150/E30, connect the thruster, adjust spring preload.

Mounting & Retrofit Note

YWZ4-150/E23 and YWZ4-150/E30 share the same A347 / C160 / D150 / H-base envelope.

YWZ4-150/E23: 100 N·m, H = 437 mm, 25 kg.

YWZ4-150/E30: 120 N·m, H = 461 mm, 29 kg.

To move from E23 to E30 you change the thruster and spring preload, not the foundation bolts. To replace an old YWZ3, check wheel diameter = 150 mm, hub width against C = 160 mm, and the A / H / K envelope before ordering.

Working Principle

Power on - release

Ed30/5 motor drives the centrifugal pump, hydraulic pressure extends the piston, shoes open against the spring, drum runs free.

Power off - brake

Spring force closes the shoes onto the drum. No electrical supply needed to hold the brake.

Fail-safe

Loss of voltage, contactor drop-out, control failure - the spring wins. The brake is closed.

Do / Don't

Do:

Verify wheel diameter, hub width and A/H/K before order.

Read spring preload on the scale, don't trust the nameplate torque alone.

Use non-asbestos lining matched to the duty.

Check equal clearance after shoe change.

Don't:

Don't use a standard YWZ4 in explosive gas or dust zones.

Don't weld or tie the push rod to force the brake open.

Don't run the thruster on wrong voltage without confirmation.

Don't adjust torque by shimming the shoe only.
